About the Campbell Adult and Online Education (AOE) Information Technology Security Bachelor of Science

In today’s high-tech world, information technology and information security go hand in hand. Organizations in the private and public sectors need specialists trained in the tools, policies, and protections that guide the use of the critical information and technology needed to grow, manage and sustain an organization. The AOE four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in information technology security (ITS) develops information technology professionals who are well-rounded in both IT management and information security.

The ITS program focuses on the changing role of IT in the 21st century and emphasizes all aspects of information assurance – information security, safe computing, information privacy and security, and internet safety. The curriculum highlights the role of information security in personal and corporate computing and trains students in intelligence creation, storage, and distribution so they graduate ready to take on challenges created by the ever-evolving IT industry.

Information Technology Security BS Learning Outcomes

The ITS program learning outcomes are based on the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) framework for information security and cyber-related education and cover:

  • Understanding the key concepts of Information technology
  • Developing a solid background in database management, systems design, and networking
  • Developing a well-rounded understanding of the security framework as it applies to the IT domain, including the internet, associated intranet, or any network
  • Understanding data centers and data compliance management (Legal)  
  • Understanding implications of social media in the corporate world

The BAS Program Requirements: The BAS program is for those who already have an AAS degree in Computer Science or Information Technology from a regionally accredited college or technical school OR have completed a military service school that has a minimum of 10 semester hours of qualifying applied science credits as recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE), and/or been awarded the Military Occupational Specialty.

This degree introduces students to a broad range of subjects, including information security and countermeasures, threat analysis and management, internet applications, Windows operating environment, and information technology fundamentals.
